Spectators at this weekend’s Ipswich 300 at Queensland Raceway can expect to see a few tweaks in and around the venue.
A new undercover temporary grandstand, corporate facilities on top of a section of the pit garages and the relocation of the XXXX Gold Retreat are just a few changes to the track that will host the fifth event of the V8 Supercars Championship Series this weekend.
The new additions come to the track courtesy of V8 Supercars Events, who have taken over the promotion of the event after a bitter split between Queensland Raceway Management and V8s earlier this year, which almost saw the track miss out on a round of the series.
A compromise was reached between the parties in February at the instigation of the Ipswich City Council.
The undercover grandstand brings with it an extra admission cost, although its prominent placing at the end of the front straight (Dick Johnson Straight) is sure to make it worth its while – just ask TeamVodafone championship leader Jamie Whincup.
“I can’t wait to see the new grandstand at Queensland Raceway,” he said.
“Hopefully we can fill it because it’s shaping up to be a great show for the spectators.”
Also at Queensland Raceway this weekend is the Speedcafe Shop, located within the merchandise area.
At the Speedcafe Shop, you can pick up your cup of coffee, buy a Speedcafe.com.au shirt and hat and browse your favourite racing motor racing website! You might even see some of your racing heroes there over the weekend.
The Speedcafe Shop is positioned right next to the staging area that will host the Keith Evers Recovery Fund Auction – with 21 high-end items up for grabs in the auction, which will be held from 2.30pm on Saturday. The auction will be hosted by Seven Network personality Mark Beretta.
